Job Description

Position Summary:
Provides leadership and coordination of research and epidemiologic activities, produces analysis of health statistics, and prepares and disseminates health reports for the California Tribal Epidemiology Center (the âEpiCenterâ).

Essential Functions:
1. Develops project methodology and determines research design.
2. Collects epidemiological electronic data files from Indian health programs and state health agencies.
3. Stores and manages the collected data.
4. Generates analysis plans.
5. Performs analyses with statistical and spreadsheet programs; interprets analyses and writes analytical sections of study reports.
6. Produces both lay and technical reports to present health data.
7. Serves as a coordinator for one or more projects.
8. Develops work scopes and schedules for special projects.
9. Manages and writes complex contracts or grants independently.
10. Designs and develops simple and complex grant budgets and justifications as needed.
11. Serves as a professional consultant to various organizations and committees.
12. Communicates with Indian health care providers and the Indian community about data and analytical issues.
13. Ensures the accuracy and clarity of analytical information in the EpiCenter.

Qualifications:
1. Masterâs degree in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or some related field is required.
2. Two years of health-related work experience preferred.
3. Strong analytical and writing skills including the ability to produce a well organized and informative extended narrative of analytical methods (providing a sample of written work).
4. Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
5. Computer skills including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Power point, Outlook), and statistical software (i.e., SAS, SPSS, STATA) and the ability to conduct research literature reviews.

This position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code, Sections 472 and 473). Applicants claiming Indian Preference must submit Indian verification, certified by Tribe of affiliation or other acceptable documentation of Indian heritage.


Salary: $60,385 annually (35 hours a week)
